Ski Resort Tycoon is one of those fun sim titles that slips through the net due to the phenomenal amount of similar titles that there are out there.
You take charge of a winter sports resort with a large selection of shops (hotels, diners, ski and boarding schools, etc.), for you to buy with the 50,000 dollars you get to set up with. There are two modes of play, Instant Action, which is pretty much like a sandbox mode where you just get thrown in at the deep end or the Challenges option which takes you through a series of scenarios.
The execution of the game is quite buggy, it will run quite slowly even on highly speced machines, you can't open and close you park at will and you can't change the camera which means that sometimes you just can't see whether the half pipe that you have just spent your hard earned cash on is functioning properly. But all in all this is an enjoyable and fun sim. -Julia Thomas

The title is self-explanatory. Put loads of beginner/intermediate/advanced/expert runs on your mountain, but make sure the Sasquatch doesn't abduct your people! Put 4 different types of transporting things to the top of your ski slope and hundreds of different buildings like hotels, restaurants, ski hires, restrooms, hospitals, mechanic shacks, and best of all jumps, moguls, halfpipes, and Slalom courses! Modify your mountain and put artificial snow down! When you're running out of money, type: Ctrl, Alt, Shift C-A-T and hold it down to get more money! I am also the Ski Resort Tycoon champion!

This is the best game I have ever played in my whole life. You can do everythging from building a chalet to making bears attack the skier. The online multiplayer option is amazing! It lets you compete against other skiiers and create bigger resorts.
Yay!
Great for budding skiiers and snowboarders.
But if you hate snow (old farts) then you'll hate this game.

Ski Resort Tycoon is in many ways like 'Rollercoaster Tycoon', despite being made by a different company. One of the great things about the game is how simple it is to edit the mountain and place items into the resort. On Rollercoaster Tycoon and similar strategy games, it can often be a nightmare trying to place down an object or building because either your land isn't level or there isn't enough room. With Ski Resort Tycoon, you can place a building just about anywhere and the land will be "levelled" automatically. You can also place paths very easily.
The graphics aren't stunning - they can sometimes be a bit jerky. However, if you click on any visitor, you can "put yourself in their body" and see in full 3D as they walk around your park, and ski down the mountains.
Unfortunately, the sound and music is limited - a few more sound effects here and there would have added to the game's appeal.
Over all, a very addictive game, and it is much better value for money than many games these days.

A good game which has finally come over to the UK. I waited ages for this game and it was worth it if you like tycoon games and skiing, yes you will like this. However the game has it's flaws. The grafics are good and so is the gameplay, however the anoying thing is that it is hard to "exhaust" as I say. I mean it is very limited and you can only build about 100 things and the building area is not that big. Webmasters and Computer Nerds may not enjoy it but younger kids and leisurely gamers will love it. You can even build some silly things and download extra stuff + cheats!

I always enjoy a god simulator; the likes of Sim City, Zoo Tycoon, Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper to name but a few. Activision have created a well thought out similator which encompases every aspect of a ski resort, from the ski slopes and lifts, to the restaurants and entertainments!
This is a querky fun game with many supprising feature and detail, and as if to put icing on the cake you can look at your resort from any skier, or building perspective in full 3D animation (similar to riding your rides in Theme Park).
Like myself if you enjoy a good god sim, this game is for you!
PS> Ski Resort Tycoon II is due out at the end of 2001, so look out for that!
